Captain Abu Raed's Website

Been working on it for quite a while, as far as I remember it was ever since 23rd of November. I was very delighted to be part of the huge Jordanian feature film and it's amazing team- as I designed the Official website of Captain Abu Raed :)

I'm really happy with the feedback I got so far, as the most important one concerned - Amin - gave me a really good feedback and I'm more than super duper happy with it. As I quote him "In the meantime, thanks to Omar Al-Zo'bi, we have a new official web site with a slick polished look. He did a beautiful job."

The website is still going under slight modifications and I do realise the images can be loaded quite slow at some connection speeds but in order to maintain the quality of the JPEG's, no way to compress them (i.e. uglify them). A Flash preloaded will be uploaded soon enough for you to view it better ;D

Anyway, I hope you guys like it as well! :)

I read the film credits and I noticed something very Jordanian.

actress Dinaa Raad: she used to be a manager at the Royal Film Commission.

actor Ali Maher: used to be a manager at the Royal Film Commission.

actress Lina Tell: she is the head of Queen Nour Center for performing arts.

Is this a Wasta and Shella film or what?

Omar, you did do a fabulous job with the website. That photo from the airport is so striking. when I was a secretary living near an airport, I used to do the same thing: lean and dream of the life a plane would lead me to. It was Jordan. :)

I wondered a bit about the credits on the press-kit, it seemed there was a problem that the names weren't justified properly.

it doesn't necessarily have to be a Wasta ya3ni, I don't see why you're looking at it this way - it's excellent to have people who have previous experience as much as introducing New faces.

Nothing is wrong with a "Shella", as long as it's expanding and bringing in whoever is willing to contribute with all their effort. So these people believe in what they do, they want to do a change and I again don't see how you're looking at it this way :/

Thanks a lot Kinzi! :D I appreciate it - it is, I had to use it when I saw it!

Oh the press kit is done by the publicist not me, but I'll see what can possibly be done.

OMERNOS!!! This is YOU! You changed your blog look so much I didn't realize it it was you. SO, not some new: hotshotblogger/photographer/designer, an old fav wrapped in new packaging!

Mabruuk! AND on the last post, your work published in Dubai! Good on ya, guy. Now I'll have to trade cookies for your autograph. :)

Can you spell CRONIYSM?

Of all the Jordanians who studied acting and who dedicated their lives to acting and who are accomplished actors, you think it's ok to have three high level managers of official entities with no prior screen acting experience to become actors in the Jordanian feature film Captain Abu Raed?

OMAR, thanks for the explanation. It may take me years to get it through my blonde head.

Colorful packaging, very nice.

OK, after a quick Google search on Banofee pie, I'll take you up n it. It resonates with my Scottish roots. :) I may have to get my kilt out.

Laith, I can appreciate your concern of wasta and all that bull. We had an open casting call. We had a lot of TV actors show up and over-act. I auditioned a lot of people. The performances we got in the film were incredible. Especially Dina Ra'ad Yaghnam, I will be the first to tell you that she went to great lengths to research and bring a truth and strength to a very challenging role. So before you start mouthing off and throwing accusations around, watch the film, then start your bitching if you feel justified.

By the way, we had a lot of TV actors come and audition who felt they were too good to play a small role in the film. I thanked them and asked them to leave. Their egos were getting too big for their heads because they're on TV. It's laughable.

For the role of Nour's father, I had cast a TV actor. He never took the role seriously, so I replaced him. Ali Maher did a beautiful job. I'm so happy to have made that choice.

And of course Lina Attal was a true pro.

Mr. Amin Matalqa, I have the greatest respect for you. I am counting the day to see your film.

But is it possible that the open casting call was done to give the impression that the process is fair and free. Just like Jordanian elections.

In an ideal circumstance, every movie I make would be with all my friends and trusted collaborators from a close circle. I'm not obligated to anyone but the talented people who bust their ass to make the best movie they can make. None-the-less, for Abu Raed, we reached out across Refugee camps to kids who have nothing for the leading roles. So with all due respect, please don't throw words like Cronyism around without knowing what you're talking about.

And those kids were so amazing that they've inspired me to come back and make another film with them, which is what I'm writing right now. They are the future Jordanian movie stars. I hope to work with them as they grow up for the rest of my life. There's nothing more enjoyable than working with people you trust.
